Four new longwalls

In June, four longwalls were put into operation in the mines of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, with reserves of nearly 1.9 million tons of coking coal.

Two longwalls were put into operation at the Pniówek mine. The B-3 longwall is 218 meters long with a strike of 790 meters. It will be mined until February 2025, and its resources amount to 340,000 tons. The second longwall in Pniówek - C-5 is slightly shorter, as its length is less than 100 meters, with a strike of 375 meters. The C-5 longwall's resources are 140,000 tons, and will be mined until September this year.

At the Zofiówka Section, the C-10 longwall, whose resources have been estimated at approx. 400,000 tons, has been put into operation. The longwall is 230 meters long, has a strike of 550 and is expected to be mined until February 2025.

The Knurów Section has put into operation its largest (14th) longwall, with estimated coal resources of one million tons. The 245-meter long longwall has a strike of nearly 1.5 kilometers and will be in operation until January 2026.

- Currently, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa operates 23 longwalls. We were able to return to the number of longwalls from before the 2023 events. Now we are working intensively to also return to the level of output from that period - says Adam Rozmus, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters.

Let us recall that production levels at JSW mines are still affected by the 2022 events at the Zofiówka Section and KWK Pniówek, as well as the 2023 longwall fires at the Budryk and Pniówek mines. Due to these events, the Company's Management Board had to decide to remodel some work fronts.

- Anyone with even a passing familiarity with mining knows that it takes weeks, sometimes months, to establish a new work front and prepare a longwall for mining. We are on the right track. We are all working hard to return to pre-2022 production levels. We hope to operate 26 longwalls in Q4 - adds Vice-President Rozmus.

The achievement of mining level targets is dependent on geological and mining conditions.
