Coking coal and coke - foundation of green transition

Jolanta Gruszka, Vice-President of the JSW SA Management Board for Sales, participated in a conference on, among other things, the development of wind energy in Poland. During her speech at the panel discussion, she stressed the importance of coking coal and coke in the energy transition.

The twentieth anniversary edition of the Polish Wind Energy Association - PWEA25 conference was held in Świnoujście. This is one of the most important industry events in Poland, bringing together representatives of the energy industry, investors, financial institutions and policy makers.

The panel discussion entitled "Offshore Industry Strategy: Priority Program Foundations - Resilience, Sustainability and European Industrial Potential in the Offshore Wind Sector" was attended by Jolanta Gruszka, Vice-President of the JSW SA Management Board for Sales, who presented the key role of coking coal and coke in the supply chain for steel production, and thus the achievement of the ambitious goals of the green transition of the European economy. In her speech, she noted that in the debate about transition the foundations on which modern technologies are based are often overlooked. One of the challenges of the wind power sector is the shortage of structural components, and at the center of these challenges is the production of specialized steel.

Recalling the statement of Prof. Jerzy Buzek, who took part in the panel on the Polish road to transition, Jolanta Gruszka stressed that JSW Group's products will be indispensable for a long time to come in the development of the economy and its road to low-carbon. Only 2 percent of the raw materials needed for wind power development come from the European Union (including coking coal), so once again Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is calling for action on the need to expand the definition of local content to include raw materials, as well as the development of EU cooperation and partnerships in the renewable energy supply chain.

The PWEA25 conference is the most important wind power event in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, providing a space to discuss the shape of the Polish energy sector. Three days of meetings and discussions were the source of valuable conclusions indicating the directions of further development of Poland's and Europe's renewable energy sector. The conference ran from 10 to 12 June.
