- I'm glad you accepted the invitation to such an important event. Today's seminar is an opportunity for a brief, focused discussion about real-world challenges. I am looking forward to an open discussion and working together to find solutions, because face-to-face meetings are the most valuable and really do help us in our future work - said Adam Rozmus, JSW’s Vice-President of the Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters, as he welcomed the seminar participants.
The purpose of the meeting was to familiarize participants with solutions designed to improve drilling conditions and ensure the stability of roadways in mines.
- It should be noted that the progressing deterioration of geological and mining conditions, resulting mainly from the increasing depth of mining and mining “legacies”, necessitates the use of flexible arch supports (ŁP) with increasingly heavier profiles and higher strength parameters at narrow pillar spacings. This roof support increasingly requires additional reinforcement - noted Dr. Zbigniew Lubosik, Deputy Director for Geotechnical Engineering and Industrial Safety and Director of the "Barbara" experimental mine.
The seminar provided an opportunity to present research findings and implementation results, exchange experiences and inspire the development of new technologies. The series of presentations highlighted that the use of shotcrete, particularly with dispersed reinforcement, characterized by rapid strength increase, can have a positive impact on drilling conditions and the stability of roadways, as well as further reduce the level of methane and fire hazards. Subsequent presentations focused on the issue of rockbolting, including the automation of this process, particularly through the use of artificial intelligence.
The event was attended by several dozen representatives from the academic world, including the AGH University of Science and Technology and the Central Mining Institute – National Research Institute, as well as representatives from the State Mining Authority and the Regional Mining Authorities in Rybnik and Katowice. Also present were representatives from JSW, PKW, LW Bogdanka, PGG and KGHM, as well as companies operating in the mining sector.
