New Community Center with a fire station built thanks to the mine

After many years of problems with recurring damage to the building of the Krzyżowice Volunteer Fire Brigade, the firefighters have gained a modern headquarters and the residents a Community Center. The project was financed by the Pniówek mine as part of rectification of mining damages.

Instead of costly and disruptive repairs to the old building, in 2020 a decision was made to build a modern headquarters for the Volunteer Fire Brigade in a completely different location.

- Due to emerging damages from mining operations, the Pniówek mine repeatedly repaired the facility until finally, after many meetings with the head of the municipality, councilors and JSW representatives, a decision was made to build a new one. The previous building was in a very bad condition, its tilt was increasing, the structure began to crack, the basement was flooded, and we decided that there was no point in repairing it once again - explains Zbigniew Czarnecki, director of the Pniówek mine.

The head of the Pawłowice municipality found a suitable plot of land. Design and cost documentation was prepared and construction began in December 2022. The new fire station was built on Orla Street in the area of Shaft IV, on a plot of land safe from possible mining influences. In addition to the fire station, the facility also serves as a community center for the residents of the village of Krzyżowice. The building features a spacious patio, providing an area for guests of the community center to organize outdoor events.

Thanks to the project, firefighters and residents of Krzyżowice can enjoy a modern, functional and safe facility.

- This is an important moment for us, because we can show that we are responsibly dealing with the effects of mining operations. Instead of ad hoc and costly repairs, a modern building has been constructed to serve not only the firefighters, but the entire local community. JSW has been cooperating with local governments and residents for years, and this facility is proof that together we can execute projects that are needed and sustainable - stressed Adam Rozmus, JSW’s Vice-President of the Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters.

Participants in the official opening of the Community Center with a fire station included a representative of the JSW Management Board, the management of the Pniówek mine, the authorities of the Pawłowice Municipality, firefighters and residents.
