The purpose of the competition is not only to test employees’ knowledge, but above all to promote safe behavior and raise awareness of hazards in the workplace. In the mining industry, where safety is of particular importance, the systematic expansion and consolidation of knowledge is one of the key elements in building a responsible work culture.
This year's edition, which ran from January through the end of September, attracted 240 Company employees. The competition was challenging and the results achieved by the top participants confirmed the high level of their preparation. Despite a fierce battle for the top spots, no one managed to earn the maximum number of points.
Marcin Kubicki, senior production planning inspector at the Budryk Mine, won first place and a prize of PLN 5,000 gross. This is his first victory in the competition, which he has been participating in for ten years.
“I've been participating in this competition for ten years and it's only now that I've managed to win first place. This gives me great satisfaction, but it also confirms that it's worth regularly reviewing and expanding my knowledge. The competition is challenging; the questions require a solid understanding of occupational health and safety rules and regulations. Participation in the contest allows me to consolidate my knowledge, refresh my memory on important topics and focus on issues that are directly relevant to my daily work," said Marcin Kubicki, winner of the 13th edition of the competition.
Second place went to Łukasz Młynek, a senior mining technology inspector at the Knurów-Szczygłowice Mine (Knurów Section), who received a prize of PLN 4,000 gross.
Jarosław Gąska, a dispatcher responsible for methane monitoring and rockbursts at the Borynia-Zofiówka Mine (Zofiówka Section), took third place. The prize for third place was PLN 3,000 gross.
The awards ceremony took place on 13 October. The meeting provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of knowledge in the field of occupational health and safety and to recognize employees who consistently develop their skills and take on the challenge of participating in the competition.
“Employee safety is and remains one of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa’s top priorities. Building a culture of safety requires the commitment of all of us and its foundation lies in knowledge, responsibility and consistent adherence to occupational health and safety rules and regulations. Initiatives such as this competition help reinforce these values and serve as a reminder that safety begins with the conscious decisions of every employee. I would like to congratulate the winners and all employees who took on the challenge and actively participated in the competition," said Bogusław Oleksy, President of the JSW SA Management Board.
