JSW Foundation

As the largest employer and economic operator in the region, JSW undertakes a variety of initiatives to extend its support to the local community and beyond. The Foundation, established in April 2019 by JSW, supports and complements corporate social responsibility projects executed directly by JSW and its Corporate Social Responsibility Team, which as early as in 2017 adopted the JSW Group’s Sustainable Development Strategy, a document identifying the provision of various forms of support to local communities as a priority.

Socially responsible projects executed by JSW, welcomed with a great deal of enthusiasm by schools, preschools, day-care institutions and orphanages, carried out as part of the JSW for Children program, focused on providing support to children from orphanages and involving them in a variety of inspiring projects, and the JSW Knowledge Mine, promoting exact sciences and environmentally friendly attitudes, are JSW’s flagship projects that enjoy stupendous recognition and interest. They also demonstrate that the mining industry may be responsible and sensitive to challenges faced by local communities.

In turn, the main goal pursued by the JSW Foundation is the establishment of cooperation with local governments and the provision of support to local initiatives in the municipalities, towns and cities where the JSW Group runs its business.

“We share the same objective, which is to strengthen our relations with local stakeholders,” said Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters and at the same time President of the JSW Foundation. “Our intention is to be a good neighbor, which is why we are actively involved in the life of local governments to make sure that the sum of benefits generated by JSW in the regions not only makes up for but significantly outweighs the inconveniences associated with the operation of our company and contributes to the flourishing of mutual trust,” Mr. Dyczko emphasized.

In pursuit of the goals inscribed in its Articles of Association, the JSW Foundation granted 180 donations to local communities in 2019 to support healthcare, children and youth as well as to contribute to the execution of stimulating innovative projects in the fields of education, health, environmental protection and culture. JSW’s involvement is noticeable in each benefiting municipality. “The Municipal Center for Culture and Leisure Activities in Mszana is relatively small compared to other cultural centers. Mszana Municipality has over 7,600 inhabitants, meaning that we are grateful for any support we receive from outside, in this case from the JSW Foundation. And I extend our thanks for this support,” said Rafał Jabłoński, Director of the Municipal Center for Culture and Leisure Activities in Mszana.

The Foundation has also provided support to students of the School Complex in Jastrzębie-Zdrój run by the Salesian Sisters. “The donations we have received from the Foundation have contributed to the provision of more modern and better facilities to enable our students to pursue their passions. This financial assistance was invaluable in helping us organize active and creative forms of activity for our students during their winter vacation camp,” explained Sister Joanna Olszewska, Principal of the School Complex in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. “Our students were involved in a variety of activities during their winter vacation and parents did not have to worry about looking after their children. Especially since we prepared a very diverse range of activates,” added Sister Olszewska.

Similar activities assuming cooperation with schools have also been undertaken by other members of the JSW Group, including Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe and Jastrzębska Spółka Kolejowa.

JSW also remembers about sports fans, including JSW employees and residents of the region. With them in mind, JSW provides support to sports clubs. All these activities contribute to building trust in JSW as a socially responsible company.
