Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa launches an education portal for kids

|   Odpowiedzialny biznes - wspólne

On the occasion of the International Children’s Day on 1 June, JSW launched an educational portal for children at kopalniawiedzyjsw.pl. The site has been developed with input from the company’s employees and the cooperating sports clubs: Jastrzębski Węgiel, GKS Jastrzębie and JKH GKS Jastrzębie. The platform combines the #stayathomeafterwork campaign addressed to JSW employees with efforts supporting education of children and youth carried out by the Corporate Social Responsibility Team.

Even though some of the restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic have been lifted, the recommendation to stay at home if possible and observe social distancing rules remains in effect. Most children will not return to school before the summer holidays. JSW encourages its employees and the local community to observe the principles of safety in line with the #stayathomeafterwork hashtag. Due to the restrictions, the company’s regular activities, including the Children’s Day celebration, needed to take a new form that was suitable to the circumstances. This is how the idea of the kopalniawiedzyjsw.pl portal was born. In an effort to help the kids staying at home expand their knowledge in an attractive way and provide them with ideas on how to spend time with their families actively, JSW has created a contemporary educational platform where video materials and articles on the topic of: nature, chemistry, physics or language learning will be posted regularly.

- Our company has long been involved in educational activities. We have celebrated Children’s Day with a bang, inviting children and their families to have fun outdoors. Unfortunately, the workshops and picnics that we used to organize will not be held in the form that we planned. In the Silesia region in particular, coronavirus infection remains a valid threat and many families from our region will not be able to spend their summer holidays as they used to do. This is why we created the space where children and youth will learn many interesting facts related to science, but also find films and articles that will make their free time more pleasant. Kopalniawiedzyjsw.pl is an online reflection of our activities that we used to do – says Włodzimierz Hereźniak, President of the JSW SA Management Board.

Thanks to the involvement of players and teams from sports clubs such as KS Jastrzębski Węgiel, GKS 1962 Jastrzębie and JKH GKS Jastrzębie, the platform will also include video materials with simple sports exercises for the entire family, which can be done at home. The films prepared by club members are intended to be an additional incentive for those children and youth, whose regular sports training has been suspended. Physical activity is beneficial for the mood and the participation of players from well-known clubs will make the content more attractive.

The website will also contain quizzes and educational challenges, which will add interest and diversity to the content available on the site and will test the new knowledge acquired by children and youth. All materials on the nowakopalniawiedzyjsw.pl website is available free of charge.
