Miners are sharing blood plasma

|   COVID

A two-day St. Barbara’s Day blood plasma drive has begun. Today and tomorrow (November 27th and 28th), employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, who have already undergone a coronavirus infection, will donate their blood plasma needed to save Covid-19 patients.

The plasma of recovered patients contains antibodies supporting the treatment of Covid-19 patients with severe symptoms of infection. So far, nearly one thousand company employees took part in campaigns of this type co-organized by JSW. It is worth noting that the undertaking is not new for recovered patients from Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. Miners are one of the first occupational groups, which started sharing their blood plasma when such a need arose.

- I found out about the positive result after the screening tests were administered at the mine, but I was fortunate not to suffer any symptoms. Now I decided to donate my blood plasma, for the first time, because apparently it is the most effective treatment against the coronavirus – says Radosław Ciałoń, a miner from the Zofiówka Section.

Blood and plasma can also be donated on Saturday (November 28th) in the communal hall of the Pniówek mine and in the Branches of the Regional Blood Donation Center from 8am to 2pm. We should remember that blood plasma for Covid-19 patients will be collected only in the Field Branches of the Regional Blood Donation and Treatment Center in Racibórz (in Jastrzębie-Zdrój and Wodzisław Śląski).
