Diamond Hotel in a new role

JSW and Silesian University of Technology organized a competition among the students of the Faculty of Architecture for the concept of architecture and construction of 15 storey hotel "Diamond" in Jastrzębie-Zdrój and the adjacent land. Six projects has been submitted for the competition, and the participation was voluntary.

Students were given a difficult task to develop the concept of operation in the new design and the new role of the former Diamond hotel, which was opened in 1989 and experienced a brief heyday in the early 90s, while the contemporary luxury symbol. It was closed 1.5 years ago, at the end of 2011 due to the poor technical condition . In future Shared Services Centre, will be built in the place of Diamond hotel, which can also become the headquarters of other companies from the  JSW group. 

- We wanted to gather ideas to utilize the best of them. In some cases the shape of the building draws attention in other space management or arrangement of the roads and parking lots around it. Students could use part of the building or demolish it completely. The first place was taken by the project where entire space has been designed  from the very  beginning - says Jarosław Zagórowski, CEO of JSW.

The competition results were announced on Friday, July 19.  The winning team consisted of Piotr Gnacek, Mateusz Rymar and Damian Langer. Second place went to two teams, namely: Sylwia Czarnecka, Korneliusz Kellerandi Jagoda Kus and also Anna Maciejewska and Iwona Sosna. Third place was also taken by two teams. The first consisting of Grzegorz Klimek and Paweł Knapczyk, and the second Magdalena and Maria Bulsa. Diploma for participation  was given to Leszek Czaja and Jan Pietrzak. In addition to diplomas winners received cash prizes funded by JSW.

The works of students in the coming days will be on display at the City Hall in Jastrzębie-Zdroj.
