Dialogue and investments in JSW - Przyjaźń Coking Plant

– Our Przyjaźń Coking Plant accounts for 75% of JSW Group’s total coke production. We know that without coking coal there is no steel, and we all use steel components in cars, household appliances, windmills, etc. on a daily basis. Today, here at the coking plant, we are monitoring the progress of the project together - said Barbara Piontek, President of the Management Board of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) on 30 June at the Przyjaźń Coking Plant. This is the largest plant in JSW KOKS, which belongs to the JSW Group.

The business visit to Dąbrowa Górnicza took place at a key moment for JSW KOKS. - We are at a very important moment, just before the signing of a contract for battery no. 4 at the Przyjaźń Coking Plant, which will increase JSW KOKS’s production capacity. It is a company of strategic importance for the JSW Group - pointed out Barbara Piontek. - I know what cokers face on a daily basis, what problems they have, and I assure you that Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa will support their efforts in implementing all development plans - she added.

- I talk to both employees and trade unions. This project brings also tangible environmental benefits. It will make it possible to reduce emissions of dust, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides - emphasized Barbara Piontek, JSW S.A. President.

- I'm glad the CEO is open to people and investment projects. She is not afraid of challenges, she talks to all parties, engages in dialogue, and that’s the way things should be in such a large Group  - assessed Irena Przybysz, Chairwoman of the NSZZ Solidarność 80 trade union at JSW KOKS S.A., who participated in the business visit. - Today I was able to talk once again about the employees’ problems, the future of our jobs and investments, so that we can continue working here for a long time to come - said Irena Przybysz.

Construction of battery no. 4 in the Przyjaźń Coking Plant in Dąbrowa Górnicza is today key for maintaining the coke and hydrocarbons production capacity volume in the Group. The Dąbrowa plant accounts in total for 75 percent of the coke production in the whole Group and JSW KOKS S.A. has 3 coking plants (Przyjaźń, Radlin and Jadwiga) operating jointly 6 coke oven batteries, 4 of which are located in the Przyjaźń Coking Plant. In Q1 only, coke production totaled more than 0.9 million tons.

– The new battery will be built on the basis of the company’s technological documentation ensuring compliance with prevailing environmental protection requirements and allowing for implementation of state-of-the-art technical and technological solutions – emphasized Iwona Gajdzik-Szot, President of the JSW KOKS S.A. Management Board. It will be built on the site of the previous battery, using the existing infrastructure elements, including, for example, the dry coke quenching installation she added.
