Champions in the mine

The Jastrzębski Węgiel team and training staff went underground in the Borynia Section. During the visit, they had the opportunity to learn about coal mining technology and the specifics of mining work.

A dozen or so players and representatives of the Jastrzębski Węgiel training team showed up at the mine site last Wednesday. First there was a presentation on the operation of the mine. Then, after changing into work clothes, training was conducted at the mine's rescue station, including training on how to use self-contained self-rescue device - an essential piece of equipment for every miner.

After that the entire group, after collecting lamps and self-contained self-rescue devices, descended down the mine shaft to the 838-meter level. From there, they took the underground railroad to the "F" area of the mine, and then directly to the F22a roadway. There they became familiar with the equipment used in roadway excavation.

For Tomasz Fornal, it was the second descent during his time at Jastrzębski Węgiel. The first one took place in the fall of 2022.

Now I knew what it entailed and what to expect. I was prepared for it. Today’s descent was a little "softer" than two years ago. But it's always nice to see with your own eyes the conditions miners work in and how much of their health they have to sacrifice to mine the coal out - says Jastrzębski Węgiel’s outside hitter.

Łukasz Kaczmarek and Norbert Huber, in turn, were underground in the mine for the first time.

- I am very impressed and have great respect for the people who work there. It is a very dangerous job, the temperature there is high, even though we were in places where it was not so hot and there was not much dust. Really great respect and great appreciation for the miners for what a great job they are doing - says Kaczmarek.

- I'm glad we were able to go down to the mine. We experienced something special. We should be happy that as outsiders we had the opportunity to see how the miners, who are at the same time our supporters, people who support this club, work and risk their lives every day - said Huber, the third of our Olympic silver medalists from Paris.

As a reminder, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa SA is a strategic partner of the club.
