30 modern ventilators from JSW and Caritas Polska

|   COVID

11 hospitals in the Silesian Voivodship will receive in total 30 ventilators, thanks to Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa’s participation in the #WdzięczniMedykom campaign run by Caritas Polska. The first 4 modern ventilators have already been handed over to hospitals in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Racibórz, Rybnik and Wodzisław Śląski, and the rest will be delivered over the next few weeks. The purchase of the ventilators was possible thanks to the JSW Foundation, which has supported Caritas Polska’s campaign with a donation of nearly 1 million zlotys.

JSW SA and the JSW Foundation actively participate in helping the medical facilities during the pandemic. – The joint initiative of the JSW Foundation and the biggest charitable organization in Poland has made it possible to purchase ventilators which enhance the health safety of our fellow citizens. So far, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa has earmarked 4 million zlotys to subsidize hospitals and purchase the necessary equipment and PPE. We want to and we have to show solidarity. Only then will we be able to dealt with the pandemic - says Włodzimierz Hereźniak, President of the JSW Management Board.

Caritas Polska will fully earmark JSW Foundation’s donation for the purchase of 30 UK-made ventilators which are highly praised by Polish health care professionals. The equipment will be delivered to hospitals in 11 cities: Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Racibórz, Knurów, Mikołów, Pszczyna, Żory, Wodzisław Śląski, Tychy, Orzesze, Cieszyn and Rybnik.

– Caritas continuously works to help Polish medics in the struggle with the coronavirus. We are there where our support is needed most. Today, the Silesian Voivodship is definitely a place in need. Therefore over the next few weeks we will supply the hospitals in this region with 30 ventilators – says priest Marcin Iżycki, Director of Caritas Polska. – The purchase of this life-saving equipment for those ill with COVID-19 would not be possible without the support received from the JSW Foundation for our #WdzięczniMedykom campaign, he emphasizes.

This week, the first 4 ventilators were handed over to the Voivodship Specialist Hospital no. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, Doctor Józef Rostek District Hospital in Raciborz, Voivodship Specialist Hospital no. 3 in Rybnik and the PP ZOZ County Hospital in Wodzisław Śląski. The remaining ones will be delivered to the next health care facilities in the Silesian Voivodship. The deliveries are planned to be completed by the turn of June and July.

– The JSW Foundation has been consistently bringing help to the most needy. Our cooperation with Caritas will strengthen the medical facilities of Silesian hospitals. I would like to emphasize that we do not limit ourselves to helping hospitals and the group that is the most hard-working group during the pandemic i.e. the medics. We also support the local community in different ways. For example, we have purchased 14 modern computers for the residents of three orphanages to help them learn remotely. We have also purchased sewing machines thanks to which volunteers cay make protection facemasks, which as so needed now Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters and President of the JSW Foundation.

As part of the #WdzięczniMedykom campaign, Caritas Polska has already ordered 100 ventilators. The first machines were donated already in April to the Military Medical Institute at Szaserów Street in Warsaw and the J. Struś Multi-Specialization Municipal Hospital in Poznań. Both facilities are among the hospitals treating patients infected with the coronavirus. The next ventilators from Caritas will be donated to Polish hospitals in May and June. – Caritas Polska has many times proven that it is there where there are those in need. Joining the campaign JSW confirms with its actions that it feels responsible for the life and health of those affected by the coronavirus epidemic, says Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets.
