“Mining Geomatics – the role of geoinformation in digital transformation of spacial mining data” is the topic of a two-day on-line meetings organized by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, JSW IT Systems, JSW Szkolenie i Górnictwo and the Mining Geomatics Committee at the Polish Association for Spatial Information at the AGH University of Science and Technology.

By thinking and speaking about the future of mines, geomatics and geoinformation technology will be crucial areas, which the mining industry will have to adopt, and basically it has already adopted – believes prof. Stanisław Prusek, director of the Central Mining Institute. – The fourth industrial revolution in the mining industry is already here. Many mines, including the mines of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, are already implementing numerous tools from the broadly defined area of geomatics and geoinformation technology – he adds.

The event is divided into 4 topical sessions: geology, mining, information technology and geodesy. During the first day of the conference, the participants learned about the solutions being implemented in Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa associated with quality management and coking coal production planning and scheduling. Much attention was devoted to the three-dimensional deposit modeling, data centralization and the Deswik platform, which supports the geological information management process and supports production planning.

We have achieved the world-class standard when it comes to new solutions and deposit quality management tools. However the tools are secondary – it is people who play the key role. Our company has well educated employees and currently we want to develop the system and improve the quality parameters. It is already happening, because we have already improved on thirteen out of the thirty parameters that are included in our commercial contracts. Never in the history of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa have we had such an approach to the planning and management of deposit exploitation. This is the world-class level – emphasizes Artur Dyczko, acting CEO of JSW SA.

The first day of the conference closed with a discussion panel with the individuals, who use digital tools in their day-to-day work. Tomorrow (February 25th), geoinformation technology solutions supporting the management of spatial information and papers describing, among others, the opportunities offered by laser scanners in the mining industry will be presented.
