Shaft sinking completed at Zofiówka

The sinking of shaft IIz to a depth of 1,104.68 meters has been completed at the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine in the Zofiówka Section. This is a very important project for the mine from the point of view of building the new 1,080 level.

A ceremony was held on Wednesday (23 April) at the bottom of the completed shaft IIz, during which the mine director received a report from the contractor, officially confirming the completion of the task.

- The main functions that the shaft will perform are the transportation of people and materials to level 1,080 by the southern compartment and the improvement of ventilation conditions at the newly built level - said Łukasz Szlązak, director of the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine.

The sinking of shaft IIz in the Zofiówka Section from a depth of 929.5m began in April 2017. Initially, the work was carried out through a consortium of Elektrometal (leader), Budwak and KPRGiBSz. In April 2022, the consortium leader, due to the bankruptcy proceedings of the consortium members, further work was contracted to Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Szybów, which is part of the JSW SA Group.

- In the mines of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, we have been going lower and lower with mining for several years. Almost all mines have new levels under construction, so in order to ensure better ventilation of the levels under construction and transport of people and materials, we have to deepen the shafts. Shaft IIz in the Zofiówka Section is an example of consistent implementation of the adopted plans - says Adam Rozmus - Vice-President of the JSW for Technical and Operational Matters.

Currently, the shaft is sunk to a depth of 1,104.68 m, constructed in a final casing with a double-sided inlet at the 1,080 m level and single-sided inlets at depths of 1,058.03 m and 1,099.68 m.
