In response to an announcement on help needed in COVID hospitals, over 230 employees who have completed qualified first aid courses applied to the JSW Crisis Management Team. Every week, 50 rescue workers from JSW will work at the International Congress Center. – Our rescue workers will support the medics in the temporary hospital. This is a unique group of people, because they are able to cope even in the most difficult situations – says Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters, discharging at the same time the function of the Head of the JSW Crisis Management Team.

Ultimately, the temporary hospital at the International Congress Center will be able to receive as many as 500 coronavirus patients. It will support the voivodeship health care system and the ambulance service, helping to lift some of the weight from other health care facilities, thanks to its broad diagnostic and treatment capacities. Rescue workers are a great support due to their huge experience. – For us, it’s great responsibility and honor, because Jastrzębie miners once gain prove the ethos of the mining community. I’m very happy that so many rescue workers have declared their help right away, for which I would to express our heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Management Board. It’s a great honor to be able to work with such people – comments Deputy CEO Artur Dyczko.

The labor costs of the seconded workers will be covered by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, while the National Health Care Fund will provide them with board and accommodation, because the rescue workers in Katowice will work in 7-day cycles, 12 hours a day, in 10-person groups from each JSW mine. – We owe thanks to the rescue workers because this support from qualified staff will be indispensible for the operation of the temporary hospital – says Jarosław Wieczorek, Silesian Voivode.

The rescue workers from the company’s mines will also work as volunteers in other locations. Among others, admission rooms from hospitals is Mikołów and Knurów and the Voivodeship Specialist Hospital no. 2 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój have expressed demand for support. There, they will work on the front line in the battle against the pandemic – in admission rooms and during hospital transport of patients.

At the same time, the secondment of the rescue workers does not compromise the safety of the company’s mines. As at today, the JSW Group employs approx. 500 rescue workers with appropriate qualifications.
