Forest Carbon Farms (FCF) is a unique project carried out by the State Forests, at least on this scale, whose aim is to increase the amounts of carbon dioxide absorbed by forest ecosystems and at the same time reduce the emission CO2 from marshlands. Forests are natural absorbers of CO2, a gas that is responsible for a major part of the greenhouse effect. The project will be implemented experimentally on an area of 12 thousand hectares in 23 forest inspectorates all over the country. Its objective is to increase the current carbon dioxide absorption capacity of forests. The Forest Carbon Farms concept and the course of its implementation will be presented during the COP24 summit in Katowice in December of this year.

- Forest Carbon Farms are our contribution to the opposition to the climate changes that adversely affect not only forests but also all areas of our lives. We are estimating that, among others by increasing the share of certain tree species, conducting new afforestation, by favoring natural regeneration or taking action to prevent excessive damage to forest soil, Forest Carbon Farms will absorb an additional 1 million ton of CO2 over a 30-year period. I am very happy to see the leaders of the Polish economy eager to cooperate with us on this important project – stated Andrzej Konieczny, Director General of the State Forests.

The first auction of certificates representing Carbon Dioxide Units (CDUs) additionally absorbed by forests will be conducted during this year’s POL-ECO SYSTEM trade fair in Poznań (23-25 October). All the proceeds from the sales of CDUs will be allocated by the State Forests to environmental projects chosen by their buyers (available projects include, among others, support for the protection of black stork, peregrine falcon, construction or modernization of educational trails, tourist facilities or creation of an arboretum of Polish shrubs).

- Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is aware of its responsibility for the environmental impact of its operations. That is why we happily support all environmental initiatives. We also take various actions ourselves to minimize the effects of our production operations, in many cases making serious contributions to land reclamation efforts. We are a socially responsible, environmentally - and health-friendly company. We continue to introduce modern technologies and are becoming the environmental leader in the mining industry – stated Artur Dyczko, Vice-President of the Management Board for Strategy and Development.

Similar letters of intent on cooperation in the implementation of the Forest Carbon Farms project were signed with the State Forests by other companies, such as PKN ORLEN, PGNiG, KGHM Polska Miedź, Enea, Energa, Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne, PKP Cargo and others.
