JSW Group company supports the water supply sector in fight against cyber attacks

JSW IT Systems is helping water utilities secure their critical infrastructure and prepare for the "Cyber-secure Water Utilities" program under the National Reconstruction Plan. This has to do with the increasing incidence of cyber attacks on water supply systems, which can lead to serious disruptions in water supply and even the risk of water contamination.

JSW IT Systems, a JSW Group company, has conducted audits and implementations at 26 water supply companies this year alone. It offers support from needs analysis and preparation of funding applications to implementation of technology solutions and safeguards in compliance with the requirements of the European NIS2 Directive and national cyber security regulations.

- Our goal is not just to implement the technology, but to provide real support to water utilities in the process of digital transformation and preparation for raising National Reconstruction Plan funds - says Rafał Wowra, Security and Infrastructure Director at JSW IT Systems, and adds: - With the help of an organization's cyber security maturity assessment and consultation, we help companies understand where they are, where they are going, and how to safely navigate this journey. We don't impose revolutionary solutions on our clients - we tailor actions to suit the possibilities, step by step, staggered and in line with the budget.

In recent months, hackers have attempted to tamper with the performance of water supply equipment, modifying pressure and filtration settings. Such actions may result in temporary cessation of water supply or deterioration of water quality. Experts warn that threats of this type are on the rise and require specialized security measures.

Therefore, among the measures proposed to water utilities are the identification of gaps in IT and OT systems, risk analysis, the development of security documentation, and the introduction of solutions to detect threats. The company points out that in the "Cyber-secure Water Utilities" program it is possible to obtain funding of up to PLN 1.2 million, which allows for infrastructure upgrades and employee training.

The deadline for submitting grant applications is 2 October this year. A free webinar will be held on 15 October at 10:00 a.m., during which JSW IT Systems expert Rafał Wowra will talk about lessons learned from working with dozens of water utilities.
