The Central Measurement and Research Laboratory is one of the largest accredited laboratories in Poland. It is also one of the most modern and well-equipped, as noted by visitors from the Cracow University of Technology.

“A very good laboratory, an incredible number of certified test methods, it's downright impressive. At the Cracow University of Technology, we have only a dozen or so certified methods and analyses, while here there are more than 1,200," pointed out Piotr Michorczyk, PhD Hab. Eng., professor at the Cracow University of Technology, dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology, adding: “For our students, this is a valuable visit, given the topics we are currently teaching in technical studies at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology.”

The students were introduced to the area of research provided by CLP-B, particularly research pertaining to process monitoring in the mining, power generation and coking industries. They saw laboratories for testing of solid fuels (coal, coke, biomass, alternative fuels), environmental testing (water, wastewater, air, gases, mine dust, waste, soils) and industrial testing (monitoring of technological processes and CO2 emissions and analysis of gases and hydrocarbons).

“Our laboratories within the JSW Group provide a full range of services from testing coal, coke, coke gas to hydrocarbons and environmental testing. Furnace waste tests along with waste incineration opinions carried out since 2016 serve as evidence in court cases across the country. The laboratory in Jastrzębie-Zdrój largely serves mines - from testing hard coal for production quality forecasting to testing commercial coal for settlements with business partners. We perform mine atmosphere monitoring, expert testing, workstation testing and much more. The laboratories located at coking plants provide mainly services necessary for the coking process, but also for all environmental aspects. Our laboratory is one of the few in the country that provides tests and measurements in such a wide range. We boast four accreditations from the Polish Accreditation Center in the fields of testing and measurement, loading supervision, organization of inter-laboratory comparisons and production of reference materials. There is no other such company in Poland," Aleksandra Burczyk, acting President of the Central Measurement and Research Laboratory, explained to the students.

The visit to the Jastrzębie laboratory introduced the students to the practical application of modern technologies. Direct contact with high-end equipment and, above all, specialists in the field provided future chemists with much inspiration.
