“Work safety is an absolute priority for us. It is a great joy and satisfaction for me that we have a group of employees who declare their readiness to raise their qualifications, to deepen the knowledge they have in the field of occupational health and safety. This is extremely important, because it directly translates into safety at the workstations in mines. I wish you a great sporting rivalry," said Tomasz Cudny, President of the Management Board of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa, during the official start of the tournament.

Twenty-one employees working in Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa’s mines took part in the finals held at JSW’s headquarters.  In the first stage, participants had to answer 30 closed-ended multiple-choice questions. After an extremely exciting battle, 4 contestants with the highest number of points qualified for the second stage. The second stage - with the use of computers - was held in the form of a 10-minute virtual rivalry, on a route covering selected JSW locations and facilities. While moving along a marked route, the participants had to provide answers to the questions placed on the way. The inspiration for this form of competition was the app "Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Mines 360⁰”, which was developed to popularize the work in the mine in an innovative way.

In the first stage, the best result was obtained by Jarosław Gąska from the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine, Zofiówka Section, and it was he who ultimately became the winner of the eleventh edition of the competition. The second place went to Marcin Kubicki from the Budryk mine, and the third place went to Rafał Gembalczyk from the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine, Borynia Section. In the team classification, the victory went to the team of the Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie mine, Zofiówka Section, represented by Jarosław Gąska, Krystian Salamon and Mateusz Siwiec.

The winners received their awards from Tomasz Cudny, President of the JSW Management Board, Piotr Wojtacha, Vice-President of the State Mining Authority, and Prof. Stanisław Prusek, Director of the Central Mining Institute.

“The qualifiers at the mine level were at a very high level, but what we saw here exceeded our expectations. Congratulations to all participants and congratulations to the winners," said Tomasz Cudny, President of the Management Board of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

The competition was prepared by the employees of the OHS team, the Crew Head’s Zone’s editorial board, and JSW IT Systems.
