As part of a study visit to Poland by energy diplomats accredited to the EU from EU and EFTA member states, 50 guests visited KWK Budryk and descended to the 1,290-meter level to see firsthand what it's like to work in Europe's deepest coal mine.
During the tour, the attachés learned about the realities of working underground, and toured the coal preparation plant, where they had the opportunity to see all stages of processing raw coal. The foreign guests were also able to learn more about JSW's efforts to reduce methane emissions, as well as how the gas is used in cogeneration facilities.
This meeting was of great importance to Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa - the largest producer of coking coal in the European Union, a critical raw material essential to the steel industry. In the current realities of the energy transition, a clear and stable regulatory framework is essential for the continued responsible development of the mining industry in the European Union. Thus, the visit to the JSW mine was an excellent opportunity to talk, exchange experiences and bring closer the challenges faced by Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa. The green and digital transition will not happen without a strong European mining industry, whose production and stable supply are the basis of the EU's strategic autonomy.
