Changes in the JSW Management Board

On September 3rd CEO of JSW Edward Szlęk resigned from his position for health reasons. The Supervisory Board accepted his resignation. Edward Szlęk held the position of President of the listed company since 27 April this year, he was previously CEO of JSW Koks, part of the JSW Capital Group.


Józef Myrczek, chairman of the Supervisory Board, holds the position of Acting CEO of JSW at present. He has been the chaiman of the JSW Supervisory Board since 2010. In 1980 he graduated from the Wrocław University of Technology with an M.Eng. degree in fundamental technological research. In 1984, he earned a Ph.D. degree and later, in 1999, a postdoctoral degree (habilitation) in chemistry. Furthermore, he completed numerous courses and additional studies in banking, finance and risk management, both in Poland and abroad. Currently, he is an associate professor at the University of Technology and Humanities in Bielsko-Biała.

On September 3, 2015, the JSW Supervisory Board also selected two deputy CEOs of JSW - for Technical Matters and for Strategy. The new member of the JSW board for Technical Matters as of September 4 became Alexander Wardas, and a member of the management board for Strategy - Tomasz Gawlik.

Alexander Wardas has the knowledge and experience of the management of mining entities. He have successfully completed many projects related to the development of production processes  and strategic projects related to restructuring mines.

The newly elected member of the board of JSW since the beginning of his career  was associated with the mining industry. In the years 1987 - 2002  worked in the coal mine "Chwałowice", where he went through the different levels - from a trainee to the chief mining engineer  - mining department manager. He then worked in the coal mine "Jankowice", where in the years  2002 to 2007 served as chief engineer, deputy head of mining plant, and in the years 2007 to 2010 - technical director. Since November 2010 till the end of 2011 he served as technical director of   "Knurów - Szczygłowice" mine, then director of the mine, which since August 2014 has entered into the structure of JSW.

Alexander Wardas graduated from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, where in 1987 he graduated from the Faculty of Mining. In 1997 he completed postgraduate studies in specialty "Management of the Mining Economic Entities" at the same university.

Tomasz Gawlik is a graduate of the University of Economics in Katowice, where he also completed Postgraduate Tax Studies in finance and tax accounting. He is associated with the JSW Group since 1989. First he  worked at the Jas-Mos mine and since 2005 in the Office of the Management  Board of JSW in the Procurement and Contracts Team. Since 2008, he served as Deputy Director of the Office of Supervision and since 2010 as Director of the Office of Strategic Development. From 2013 he served as President of the Board of the "Jastrzębie" S.A. Energy Company. He has experience in the creation and supervision of the execution of long-term strategic plans, conducting restructuring processes and implementation of projects aimed at optimizing business processes.
