(13 August 2025) The injured miners who were taken to hospitals have been discharged home.
- Rescue teams have covered another 80 meters, and conditions in the working remain stable. The condition of the roadway does not raise serious concerns, but the priority of rescue workers is to safely reach the missing miner. The biggest challenge remains the last section of about 50 meters, where it is necessary to fully control the methane hazard and effectively reduce its concentration. The Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters Adam Rozmus reports that four of the eight people who were hospitalized earlier have already been discharged home.
- At this point, rescue workers have covered 60 meters. They have restored the installation for ventilating the working, which fortunately was not damaged by the dynamic shock wave in the area. We currently have 130 meters left to the worker we are looking for and so far have not made contact with him. We are continuing operations, ventilating the working. At the moment eight rescue teams are hard at work - says Adam Rozmus, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters.
- The efforts are focused on reaching one of the workers who was in the excavation affected by the shock wave. The most important thing is that we know exactly where the injured miner is - about 200 meters from the rescue workers. Currently, the work of the rescue workers is to rebuild as quickly as possible the partially destroyed infrastructure, in this case the flexible ventilation pipeline that supplies air to the working face. The safety of those who go to rescue is paramount right now - said Adam Rozmus, Vice-President of the JSW Management Board for Technical and Operational Matters.
The accident occurred yesterday (11 August) at 9:26 p.m. in working face 32a at the 850-meter level. During the excavation of the face, there was a shock wave in the rock mass. 8 working face workers retreated on their own and one miner is not contactable. The mine management immediately decided to launch a rescue operation. Running a caving operation is very difficult. Currently, 10 rescue teams are involved in the operation, including those from the Central Mine Rescue Station.
