The first coke gas engine in Poland

Power Company "Jastrzębie" launched Poland's first cogeneration system fueled by coke gas.

Yesterday, May 16, belonging to JSW Energy Company "Jastrzębie" launched in the  “Nowa Częstochowa”coke plant Poland's first cogeneration system that is powered by coke gas engine. The official installation launch was attended by Grzegorz Czornik, Vice President of JSW for Sales , Tomasz Gawlik, president of "Jastrzębie" power company and many invited guests.

This is the first installation of motor generating set in Poland fed with coke gas, the general contractor was Energomontaż Zachód from Wrocław, and the task has been largely funded by the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection in Katowice, which recognized the high environmental values of the project. President Gabriela Lenartowicz has cut the ribbon.

Jastrzębie Power Company highly mastered the operation of similar power generators fueled with methane obtained from mines demethanization. Coke gas produced in technological devices differs greatly from the methane captured at the mines, and it is very difficult to use in this type of installation. An innovative solution for systems already installed is  the installation of a recuperative boiler in the place of water boiler.

Cogeneration system consists of a motor generator TCG 2032 and a nominal power of 2.93 MW, a supply of gas, power evacuation system, the heat in the form of hot water and steam, control and visualization system, emergency cooling system, ventilation system and exit exhaust air boot and external lubrication system. The whole was placed in a new, free-standing building, which was equipped with a gas detection system and fire protection system. The system of gas engine generator generates electrical power at a constant level 2.93 MWe thermal power in the water for the Water Treatment Plant (coke plant system) of 2.01 MW, heat output in process steam (approximately 2000C, a stream about 2 t / h) of 1.25 MW. coke oven gas consumption about 1600 Nm3 / h Planned annual working time of 8000 hours. Electrical power will be partly used for the New Czestochowa Coke Plant and in part will be discharged to the national grid through a local distribution company ELSEN. Eventually (after optimization of traffic) system will be controlled and monitored remotely by a service team cogeneration plants, which are equipped with appropriate information. The innovative construction of the SEJ cost over 15 million dollars. The investment will pay off within three years.
