To address the current needs, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa SA working together with Advicom Spółka z o.o., are implementing new solutions for communication and integration of technological systems. The workshops entitled “New IT/OT solutions in mining” were devoted primarily to defining the new directions for standardization in telecommunication and the use of modern technological solutions in the mining industry. JSW SA has proposed its own approach to current monitoring of machinery and equipment in the context of the ongoing work on production performance reporting. The conference was hosted by Antoni Wojaczek, Ph.D. Hab. Eng., from the Silesian University of Technology. The agenda covered topics related to industry 4.0, smart mines, innovative solutions in the area of automation and IT systems applied in the mining industry.

– For most of us it is a difficult but unavoidable subject. Let me emphasize that the investment process in this area is already very advanced. We have established the Sophisticated Data Research Center where we are testing several exciting projects in the area of data analysis and monitoring – said Artur Dyczko, JSW’s Management Board vice-president for strategy and development, opening the workshops. – Data analysis and standardization of solutions are only two of the numerous elements aiming to improve efficiency, production quality and work safety in Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

The meeting was attended by key representatives of the mining industry including, among others, representatives of Lubelski Węgiel “Bogdanka” SA: Artur Kuter, IT Director, Łukasz Herezy, Innovation and Development Director and Krzysztof Chołast, Chief Electrician; KGHM SA: Marek Andrzejewski, Mechanical Engineering Department Director and Paweł Śliwiński, Chief Analysis and Optimization Engineer at the Mechanical Engineering Department; Tauron Wydobycie SA: Piotr Orzeł, Chief Specialist-Coordinator and Maciej Goetz, Development Department Manager at Zakład Górniczy “Sobieski”, as well as leading manufacturers of machinery, equipment and industrial systems: KOMATSU JOY, FAMUR Institute, HASO Sp. z o.o., SANDVIK POLSKA Sp. z o.o., ELMODIS and OSISoft. The workshops were also attended by the representatives of JSW’s mines.

In the workshop session devoted to underground transport, Piotr Kulinowski, Ph.D. Hab. Eng., from the AGH University of Science and Technology delivered a presentation pertaining to a discrete simulation model for a conveyor transport system, as a tool supporting the winnings stream management process, and Piotr Orzeł, Coordinator from the “Sobieski” Mine, shared his experience of Tauron Wydobycie S.A. regarding the belt conveyor human transport planning aspects.

The meeting ended with a session summarizing JSW SA’s existing work regarding data analysis performed in the Sophisticated Data Research Center, and the standards for unification of the infrastructure and data exchange in the IT/OT areas. The standards being developed make it possible to build a common model for all Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa mines.

Meetings and workshops regarding new IT/OT solutions will undoubtedly help with the standardization of the activities undertaken by all the stakeholders. The cooperation aimed at improving the performance and quality of the mining industry is developing in the right direction, using modern IT technologies.
