Polish technical thought returns to India

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and its long-term collaborators from the mining industry are facing a great opportunity. They intend to support the Indian coal mining industry in solving the problems associated with the construction of underground mines. The greatest of them all is the huge volume of methane that occurs as the mining operations move on to deeper coal deposits. The Poles have substantial experience in this area in designing and implementing methane drainage solutions, including the construction of infrastructure and the economic use of methane. The JSW Group is cooperating with ZOK, its long-term partner from the EXME Berger Group, to make a bid for that contract.

The goal of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa is to increase its presence on the Indian market and develop cooperation among others in respect to the use of methane. Now it has an opportunity to do that as Coal India Limited intends to implement methane drainage solutions in one of its mines. It is an underground mine designed and built by Polish engineers back in the 1960s. The mine is located near the town of Ranchi. – This mine has been designed by Poles and now we want to enter the market with Polish technologies. JSW and EXME Berger Group have been cooperating for many years; we have executed many similar projects together and we are willing to use our extensive experience on the Indian market. We are an unquestionable market leader here – admits Daniel Ozon, President of the Management Board of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa.

Coal India Limited is organizing a tender in which EXME Berger Group and JSW intend to place their bid. The project is planned to span 9 years and involves preparation of a gas deposit model, selection and design of a methane drainage system, including the economic use of methane, supply and installation of the necessary devices. It also includes implementation and subsequent operation of the methane drainage system. The Poles have great experience in this field. – We want to enter foreign markets, especially the Indian market. We see this as a great opportunity for JSW as well as other mining industry companies such as ourselves – said Jerzy Berger, President of the Management Board of ZOK Sp. z o.o.

This is a pilot project. The project does not only involve the implementation of a methane drainage solution but also the economic utilization of methane. The project is also a great opportunity for Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe and Centralne Laboratorium Pomiarowo-Badawcze, which may participate in the further stage of the works.

ZOK Sp. z o.o., an EXME Berger Group company, is the largest Polish company providing comprehensive methane removal from coal mines, designing methane drainage technologies, designing and building methane drainage facilities and equipment, conducting underground drilling works and research and development issues associated with the assessment and elimination of methane hazards.
