OHS competition resolved

Fierce battle for victory lasted till the last minute. The 10th edition of the “Competition on knowledge of OHS rules and regulations for the Cup of the JSW S.A. President” was resolved today. The winner was Jarosław Gąska from the Zofiówka Section, winning the main prize in the amount of PLN 10 thousand. In the team category, just like last year, the “Pniówek” mine team turned out the best.

The finals of the jubilee edition of the competition were held in the Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Management Board Office. The competition consisted of two parts: qualifiers and finals. There were 21 contestants, 3 from each mine and section.

– Safety in mining of utmost importance, hence the knowledge of OHS regulations should be as good as possible. This competition is a way to deepen this knowledge additionally. I wish you all good luck – said Włodzimierz Hereźniak, President of the Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Management Board, during the official opening of the tournament.

In the first part of the competition, contestants had to answer 30 closed-ended multiple choice questions. After an exciting battle 6 contestants with the most points qualified for the ultimate finals. In the qualifiers, Jarosław Gąska from the “Borynia-Zofiówka-Jastrzębie” Mine, Zofiówka Section score the best result and ultimately was the winner of the jubilee 10th edition of the competition. The second place went to Grzegorz Błaszczyk from the “Pniówek” mine and the third to Rafał Nowak from the same mine. In the team category, the team of the “Pniówek” mine won. The winners of the 10th edition received financial prizes in the total amount of PLN 33 thousand.

The winners collected the prizes from Włodzimierz Hereźniak, President of the JSW Management Board, Krzysztof Król, Vice-President of the State Mining Authority, and Ryszard Chadera representing the Regional Labor Inspectorate in Katowice.

– I congratulate all participants on their knowledge which should translate into better occupational safety in our mines. Safety of our employees is the overriding objective of the Company’s Management Board. The regular OHS competition on such a high level perfectly fits this strategy – said Włodzimierz Hereźniak – President of the Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Management Board.

At the end of the competition, awards were handed in to the winners of the internet OHS competition organized on the training and information platform “Crew head’s zone and more” from January to September.  Over 200 participants took part.
