JSW with a concession to extract coal and methane in the Borynia deposit

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa has received a decision extending its concession for mining hard coal and methane as an accompanying mineral from the Borynia deposit until the end of 2042. The decision was issued on 5 August 2025 by the Chief Geologist of Poland, Mr. Krzysztof Galos - Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment.

This is a strategic decision for the continued operation of the Borynia Section, which is part of the Borynia-Zofiówka mine. The deposit's resources include nearly 40 million tons of high-quality coking coal, essential for steel production, and more than 80 million cubic meters of methane, which can be used for energy purposes.

Mining will be carried out in accordance with the terms of the decision of the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Katowice and the approved deposit development plan. The concession was issued after a multi-year preparatory process, a key element of which was an environmental report and a deposit development plan prepared by the Central Mining Institute - National Research Institute in Katowice.

Before the concession decision was issued, the document received positive approvals and opinions from the Minister of Industry, the Minister of Funds and Regional Policy, the Mayor of Jastrzębie-Zdrój and the heads of the municipalities of Pawłowice, Świerklany and Mszana.

“The extension of the concession for the Borynia deposit is an extremely important decision from the point of view of the stability of our Company's operations. This allows us to plan mining for many years ahead and to continue investing with an eye to the future. We would like to thank all the institutions and partners who participated in this process,” said Adam Rozmus, JSW’s Vice-President for Technical and Operational Matters.

According to the Geological and Mining Law, it is impossible to conduct mining without a relevant concession. Thanks to the decision, JSW S.A. can continue its operations at the Borynia Section without hindrance, guaranteeing jobs and the development of the region for the next 17 years.
