Another longwall at KWK Pniówek

The Pniówek mine has put into operation a new longwall, Pw-1, in seam 361. Its estimated reserves amount to nearly 490,000 tons of high quality type 35.1 coking coal.

The longwall will be mined in two stages - in the first stage its length will be 97 meters, to be increased to 245 meters in the second. The total strike of the longwall is 785 meters. The maximum thickness of the seam exceeds 3 meters.

The new longwall has been fitted out with a modern longwall shearer, including 160 sections of JZR-HBW-14/41 and Glinik-JZR 11/26 powered support, JOY 7LS22 longwall mining machine, PSJZR-850 face conveyor and PAT 200 bottom conveyor with PAT/WB-1300 crusher. The longwall is planned to be mined until July 2026.

In order to access the Pw-1 longwall, 3,485 meters of roadway excavations were required. The fit-out work lasted two months and was carried out by employees of the GZL-2 unit.

There are currently 4 longwalls in operation at the Pniówek mine. A total of 21 longwalls and nearly 60 faces are being mined throughout JSW.

Recall that last week the Budryk mine put into operation longwall BW-1, with reserves of 1.6 million tons of coking coal. This is the beginning of the mining of area Bw, which has a total estimated reserves of nearly 12 million tons.

All new longwalls at JSW are being designed and fitted-out in accordance with the "Efficient Mine" program, a key element of the Company's Strategic Transformation Plan.

“At JSW, we are putting further longwalls into operation, and production is proceeding in accordance with the Technical and Economic Plan. At the same time, we have to face the challenges of the market - persistently low coking coal prices and unfavorable currency exchange rates. These factors are not insignificant for our financial standing,” said Adam Rozmus, JSW's Vice-President for Technical and Operational Matters.
