The end of Jas-Mos

Another chapter in the history of the Jas-Mos mine has come to a close. The JAS II skip shaft tower was demolished using 50 kg of dynamite placed in more than 800 holes drilled into the structure. These are the final cleanup operations at the site, which for years was part of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa and is now owned by Spółka Restrukturyzacji Kopalń (Mine Restructuring Company, SRK).

The nearly 73-meter-tall tower was built in the late 1960s and for decades was one of the distinctive features of the Jastrzębie-Zdrój landscape. Earlier, in late 2025, the JAS I steel lattice tower and the smaller JAS IV tower were also dismantled.

The mine, located in the Jastrzębie-Zdrój and Mszana areas, was transferred to the Mine Restructuring Company in two stages. The first part of the mine was transferred to SRK in the fall of 2016, along with approximately 1,600 employees, and the remaining part in January 2022, with more than 2,100 employees.

The mine's liquidation was completed on 30 June 2025. The real property and other infrastructure were transferred to the SRK branch – Hard Coal Mines in Full Liquidation.
