The seminar was attended by more than ten eminent professors from Polish technical universities under the chairmanship of Professor Marian Turek as well as employees and management of JSW mines. The meeting was devoted to planning in a mining establishment. The topic was discussed using the example of the Development Strategy of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa Group, the assumptions of which were discussed by Artur Dyczko, JSW Vice-President for Strategy and Development.

- We started developing the strategy in 2016, when the company was on the brink of bankruptcy. We went to visit our units, our Group companies, taking a careful look at their potential. In November 2017, we have had prepared a detailed development strategy for our entire Group until 2030. It is the first development strategy for JSW and for the entire Group, prepared in the context of value growth of the entire production chain. We have committed to development and innovation, because this is the only thing that guarantees competitiveness on the difficult global coking coal market. Development and innovation is the future of mining and this is why we have established JSW Innowacje – said Vice-President Artur Dyczko in the opening.

Scientists praised the JSW Group’s strategy as a forward-looking approach that guarantees development of the entire Group. Professor Marian Turek noted however that strategic planning does not only involve planning but also monitoring of implementation and adjustments where necessary. Vice-President Dyczko quickly dispelled Professor’s doubts.

- We knew from the very beginning that the strategy implementation process must be monitored and fully scalable, therefore, in parallel with the development of the strategy we developed our own methodology of project management, strategic management and standardization. In my opinion, this is an approach that ensures full integration of the strategic planning, implementation and monitoring stages, especially with respect to the mutual adjustment and communication between the units responsible for activities in the various implementation stages – explained Artur Dyczko.

During the further part of the seminar, both scientists and employees of Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa conducted a lively discussion about efficient production planning in JSW’s mines. The meeting of the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences was organized in the JSW headquarters upon invitation from the company’s management board as part of the policy of cooperation and sharing experiences between companies from the mining industry.
