President Andrzej Duda signed amendment to the law on the functioning of the mining industry, which facilitates extraction of methane from phased out coal mines. The existing regulations do not allow for this activity in such mines and released methane was simply vented into the atmosphere. For JSW - beyond the economic aspect of the use of methane as the source of energy, it is essential also to ensure the safety of neighboring mining companies and environmental protection.
Trade unions, which in September 2015 entered into agreement with the JSW Board, has requested to renegotiate the document on suspending the payment of the fourteenth salary and the coal equivalent for three years, and introduction of changes to the rules for calculating “Barbórka” award during this period.
Jastrzębska Coal Company and the University of Science and Technology in Kraków, signed a letter of intent on December 9, on the organization of mining practices for AGH (University of Science and Technology) students who will work at the mines of the company during the holidays.
Tomasz Gawlik, President of JSW received a special award. Children, parents and the Directorate of J. Tischner Special School No. 10 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój honored him with the title "FRIEND OF THE SCHOOL". The award was granted for multiple support initiatives for pupils with special educational needs.
