Letter from the President of the Management Board

Dear Readers,

I am pleased to present to you JSW Group’s fourth integrated report, which showcases our activities in 2021. The report contains the most significant information on the effects of managing our enterprise in areas that are of the most interest to our stakeholders and summarizes the results achieved by the Group in 2021.

Last year presented many challenges and difficult macroeconomic conditions. This period tested our effectiveness as we operated under pressure triggered by unpredictable changes on the market and in our geopolitical environment.

We are convinced that the role of JSW Group, especially at the time of transition towards climate neutral economy is unique – not only for the Polish or European economy but also for the local labour market. Coking coal has been identified as one of the 30 critical raw materials for the European Union, i.e. raw materials of strategic economic importance and entailing a high supply risk. This represents to us the proof of the Group’s importance to the EU economy Moreover, the European Commission has elaborated a set of voluntary EU principles for sustainable raw materials, including raw materials extraction and processing, which we see as a commitment to a sustainable use of the natural environment.

Aware of the scale and scope of the impact our operations have, we place a special emphasis on environmental measures and on minimising the negative climate impact. Our responsible approach is reflected by the JSW Group’s Environmental Strategy, in which we set ambitious goals including a 30% carbon footprint reduction by 2030, and, as the ultimate goal, the achievement of climate neutrality by 2050.

For years, we have pursued a good neighbour policy, striving to address and respond to our stakeholders’ needs. We are committed to numerous pro-social campaigns and activities, taking special care of those most in need. We take a number of initiatives to support local communities, which are appreciated by expert organisations active in the field of promoting and initiating best practices in sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.

We at the JSW Group are aware that each of our successes comes from the hard work of our Staff, which is why we care about building a supportive work culture and maintaining high level of occupational safety.

Operating in Upper Silesia, we wish to focus our efforts on active participation in just transition of this region, in keeping with the highest social and business ethical standards.

Sincerely yours,
