Safety a top priority for JSW

Despite the difficult financial situation and costs reduction in many areas, Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa does not reduce spending on safety. More than PLN 736 million will be spent on prevention of occupational health and safety in 2016 including over PLN 515 million for the prevention of natural hazards.

Workers in mines are actively involved in all kinds of initiatives that promote safe behavior in the workplace. All JSW mines reported their participation in the competition announced by the President of the State Mining Authority titled: "180 days without an accident at first." Under the honorary patronage of President of Poland Andrzej Duda.

The competition was addressed to the crews of underground mines, because this is where most accidents take place throughout the whole mining industry. The results of submitted to the competition facilities will be evaluated in the 180-day period,  from 15 May to 10 November this year.

The winners will be selected by the jury on the basis of the analysis of safety in the mining industry (the number of accidents and dangerous occurrences, even among workers employed by the mining service companies) and evaluation of mining services in the field of preventive measures. The solemn  awards ceremony  of safety leaders will take place during the celebration of the Miner's Day in the WUG ( State Mining Authority), 2 December this year.

The jury will be appointed by the president of the State Mining Authority, and its composition will include representatives of mining unions, prof. Waclaw Cybulski Foundation "Safe Mining" and mining authorities supervising underground facilities.

The competition is part of a strategy for mining supervision, aiming at reduction of accidents in the mines - its perspective aim is to implement the idea "zero accidents in the mining industry." The competition aims to promote the achievement of the mines in the area of improvement safety in mines.
