New conveyors from Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe

Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe (a JSW Group company) has established a new Conveyor Development Unit, with a team of 5 design engineers with long experience in designing coal haulage equipment working since the beginning of November. The design engineers are equipped with the SOLIDWORKS software for 3D designing, which is an accepted standard for this type of work, and have clear goals set for the near future.

- We are currently working on the design of a longwall conveyor with a working name of PSJZR customized to suit the specific needs of JSW S.A. mines and further down the road we will work on designs of longwall conveyors with different belt widths and designing work – says Jarosław Konsek, the head of the team.

The introduction of unified longwall conveyor designs, which additionally will be manufactured by a JSW Group company, naturally offers specific benefits such as availability and interchangeability of parts, easier maintenance service or unified installation and operation of each device. Engineer Konsek emphasizes that when designing new conveyors, the team pays special attention to their reliability, high quality and occupational health and safety concerns, i.e. the issues that are vital for machinery operating in longwalls, where any downtime causes quantifiable losses.

The Conveyor Development Unit has been operational for little more than two weeks, but the plans are ambitious and include the development of a whole series of machines for coal haulage from the longwall, including auxiliary equipment (crushers, pushing devices) as well as belt conveyors.

- JZR notices the opportunities arising on the market, understands the need of its parent company and the broadly defined market for mining machinery and equipment, strives to react to those needs, undertaking new initiatives - says Rafał Rychter, President of the JZR Management Board.

The idea of manufacturing armoured face conveyors in Jastrzębskie Zakłady Remontowe is not new, but numerous conditions had to be met in order to produce such specialized machinery. In 2017, the company prepared and launched the implementation of the JZR Development Program, responding to the needs of mines, which benefited from the good conditions on the coal market and increased their purchases of machinery. The program assumed, among others, the launch of production of certain elements of armoured conveyors.

All the development initiatives currently undertaken by JZR are aimed at optimizing the production processes in JZR and JSW, speeding up the response to the needs of the mines, quality of workmanship and introducing unification.

- It is part of a broader program, which will protect JSW against monopolization of the supply market of mining machinery for the JSW Group – says Artur Dyczko, JSW’s Vice-President for Strategy. - Through the support provided by the JSW Management Board to the “JZR Development Program”, the company will not only increase its manufacturing potential, obtain new competence and become self-sufficient, but it will also allow us to fulfill our obligations that we have made for the region, confirming our commitment to corporate social responsibility – adds Artur Dyczko, JSW’s Vice-President.
